Q: I have been asked by my venue to add them as an ‘additional insured’. What does that mean?
A:An additional insured is an entity which has an insurable interest on claims arising out of your negligence as the named insured. Common additional insureds are the owner, landlord, manager or tenant of a venue. By providing an additional insured status, they are now entitled to defense and indemnity (if policy limits have not been exhausted) under your policy with no responsibility for premium payments. The entity you indicate in Step #4 of the online application automatically becomes the first certificate holder and additional insured. If you need more, you can add an additional insured during the initial information process. Simply click the 'Create New Additional Insured' button in Step #4. If you have already purchased your policy, you can add a certificate/additional insured by going to the ‘Manage Your Policy’ box and logging into your policy and following the instructions.
Q: I don’t need Host Liquor Liability coverage, can I remove that?
A:No, and there is no need to remove it. Even at alcohol-free events, if someone sneaks in alcohol you could be liable regardless of whether or not it was provided by you.
Q: Can someone else pay for my insurance?
A:Yes, just have their credit card information handy for your purchase – number, expiration date, CVC code, name on the card and billing address.
Q: What is a general aggregate?
A:The general aggregate is the maximum amount to be paid out on all claims, combined, arising from your event.
Q: Can I buy a policy after hours or on weekends?
A:Absolutely, we recommend that you send us an email request for a call back as we are out of the office. We will do our best to call you back within a reasonable time frame usually within (1 hour). You can purchase your policy on short notice and even on a Saturday morning. Some folks show up to set up for their event and find out that they cannot set up as they may have forgotten to purchase an insurance policy. We can help give us a call we will take care of the insurance so you can get back to having a great event.
Q: Can I cancel my policy once it has been issued?
A:Unfortunately, our carriers will not allow for the cancellation and refund of premium. Premium is 100% earned once policy is purchased. We do however offer a full refund if for some reason the venue does not accept our insurance policy. Please speak to agent for more information.
Q: What is Host Liquor Liability?
A:Host Liquor Liability is the coverage for event holders who may be responsible for the service of alcohol. This coverage will not apply in cases where alcohol is sold. The liability transfers from the drinker to the host when the drinker shows signs of intoxication and then is served, or is allowed to serve themselves more alcohol. If someone has one drink and causes damage to themselves or others on the way home, it is that person’s personal responsibility.
Q: What is MED EXP on my certificate?
A:No fault medical expense coverage. It is a way for the insurance company to cover/settle a claim where there is no actual fault/liability. Example: Uncle Robert slips & falls at your wedding and there were no witnesses. His own health insurance carries out-of-pocket costs and deductibles. With med pay, the claimant does not have to sue and allege liability; the carrier has the option to settle prior to suit especially when the cost to settle is lower than the cost to defend/deny.
Q: How soon after payment can I expect to receive my insurance documents?
A:During normal business hours you can expect to receive your insurance documents within 1 hour. If for some reason the venue insurance information needs to be verified, then it may take longer. We aim to please let us know how soon you need the documents and we will work hard to meet your timeline.
Q: Is waiver of subrogation needed?
A:Waiver of subrogation is not always required; your lease agreement will inform you of this requirement. If it’s not on the insurance requirements then it is not necessary to add this additional cost and coverage to your policy.
